
Like other computer files, Ms Excel Files are also prone to corruption. This can happen due to several reasons, but the good news is that there are varieties of ways through which you can restore your damaged file.
Below are the different methods that you can try to recover your corrupt excel workbook:
1 - Recover or repair the file manually with Excel
- Select "Open" from the File menu. In Excel 2007, click the Office button and select "Open".
- Using the Look In control, find and specify the corrupt Excel File.
- From the Open button's dropdown list, choose "Open and Repair".
- Now click "Repair" in the dialogue box that to manually repair and recover file.
2 - Use the last saved version
If the file becomes corrupt or damaged while you're working in Ms Excel, Don't save the file. Inspite, revert to the last saved version of the file. Doing so without saving first should may avoid whatever was corrupting the file. In this you may lose some of the data, however, if you have been saving file frequently, may be more helpful that may bring the entire file.
To get back to the last saved version follow:
- Choose Open from the File menu. In Excel 2007, click the Office button and select Open.
- Using the Look In control, find and specify the corrupt excel file.
- Click "Open."
3 - Try opening the file in another program
If your Excel is not opening then you can try another various programs to open Excel workbook. Microsoft Tools is one option:
- From the Windows XP Start menu, select All Programs.
- Select Microsoft Office, then Microsoft Office Tools and then Microsoft Office Application Recovery.
- From the dialogue box that display, select Microsoft Office Excel.
- Click "Recover Application".
However, following the above method does not help in recovering your data from corrupt or damaged excel sheet, then it is recommended that you must use third party Excel File Repair tool. It is helpful in repairing and recovering the entire data from Excel Sheets that are severely corrupted or inaccessible. The software is compatible with all windows versions and it is easy to use.
